An accessible approach for continuous improvement?

The fully certified CPD programme is built around an average timeframe of 4 hours per pathway, depending on previous knowledge. It allows workers to progress logically through three key skill levels:

  • Pathway 1: Working Productively – It establishes a baseline understanding with courses covering the Introduction to Productivity, Value and Waste, Problem Solving, and Visual Performance Management.
  • Pathway 2: Working Effectively – It introduces practical field management tools including Daily Activity Briefings, Collaborative Planning, Risk Assessment Method Statements, and Trade to Trade Handovers.
  • Pathway 3: Working Consistently – This level digs deep into Process Mapping, Process Confirmation, and Skills and Competency tracking.

Practical Tools for Real Site Challenges

The programme integrates key construction tools and techniques that can be used to drive small, incremental changes and continuous improvement across any project or programme. Rather than focusing on abstract theory, the modules discuss these tools using real-life construction examples.

Some of the core practical tools covered include:

  • The 8 Wastes: Training site teams to spot and eliminate hidden inefficiencies—such as defects, waiting times, and unnecessary material handling—that consume time and erode project margins.
  • Daily Activity Briefings (DABs): Structuring updates on site to align teams, review previous outputs, and clear immediate daily blockages.
  • Collaborative Planning: Bringing contractors and supply chain partners together to build realistic lookahead schedules that everyone understands and buys into.
  • Practical Problem Solving: Equipping frontline supervisors with simple frameworks to diagnose site issues and resolve them permanently at the source.
  • Visual Performance Management: Utilising clear, simple tracking boards on site so project health, targets, and constraints are visible to the entire workforce at a glance.

By learning how to deploy these tools, supervisors and managers can take immediate action on site to remove daily barriers, establish accountability, and ensure a reliable, predictable workflow.
